21-Day Boys Program

JULY 3rd – 23rd, 2012
The experience begins with two or three days of teambuilding, high ropes course and rock climbing experiences in our base camp in South River, Ontario, near Algonquin Park. The group then departs on a 2 plus week whitewater canoe trip on an Ontario whitewater river (Missinaibi, Petawawa). During the expedition, students learn to acknowledge their own mental and physical limits; work within a group environment; take time for reflection (3 Day Solo) and journaling; and work with the instructors and therapist to achieve pre-planned treatment goals in personal and group based curriculum units. Parents, social workers and other individuals involved in the youth’s life will work together with our team to define goals for each student that will be worked on throughout the therapeutic process. A post trip treatment meeting with family members takes place following the experience to summarize the experience and beneficial results experienced by the youth.

The goal of this wilderness program is to not only be an experience that will last a lifetime, but a medium in which students make real and lasting changes in their lives and the community. Using the wilderness as a therapeutic tool can be very powerful form of counseling.
